Student, Sociology

“To me, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging mean creating a society, workplace, or community that values and respects each individual's unique qualities, experiences, and contributions.”

Q: What does equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging mean to you?

A: To me, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging mean creating a society, workplace, or community that values and respects each individual's unique qualities, experiences, and contributions. It involves dismantling barriers, challenging biases, and embracing diversity to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.

Q: When did you first have an understanding that you had different identities from others in your life?

A: 2000

Q: To what extent are you able to bring your full self to campus each day? Or, to what extent were you able to bring your authentic self to campus each day during your time as a student?

A: I’m able to bring all of who I am.

Q: How would you improve inclusivity and belonging on campus? Or, how have you seen inclusivity and belonging on campus evolve since you were a Fresno State student?

A: We are doing a good job. Unfortunately there will always be persons who don’t agree regardless of what other inclusivity is added.

Q: How can each of us make an increased commitment to ensure people of every identity feel welcomed, included and that they belong?

A: Make friends who we can make friends with and know all won’t be our friends and that’s okay. Biases are a natural inborn thing that will always be part of a society.
