Q: What does equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging mean to you?

A: That we are all going to be put in positions to succeed. That our campus provides a safe space for all. That our University understands the needs of each student are different and will provide resources that create equity. That as a bulldog you will be accepted and included and given opportunities to grow and flourish.

Q: When did you first have an understanding that you had different identities from others in your life?

A: In elementary school I knew I was poor and I knew I had a different life than my peers.

Q: How were those differences either ridiculed or celebrated?

A: They were not celebrated. Instead I never was made to believe I was special. I never got awards and I never felt smart.

Q: How have your intersecting identities played a role in who you are today?

A: Today I have been given so many opportunities to embrace who I am and draw upon my experiences to encourage others that they can succeed in life. Today, I am acknowledged, recognized, and included in my community, on my campus, and treated with respect and dignity.

Q: To what extent are you able to bring your full self to campus each day? Or, to what extent were you able to bring your authentic self to campus each day during your time as a student?

A: At CSU Fresno- EVERYDAY

Q: How would you improve inclusivity and belonging on campus? Or, how have you seen inclusivity and belonging on campus evolve since you were a Fresno State student?

A: I feel that networking and being involved raises awareness of the gaps that still exist. I feel so supported on my campus. I have grown so much because of Fresno State.

Q: How can each of us make an increased commitment to ensure people of every identity feel welcomed, included and that they belong?

A: By promoting inclusion and embracing diversity.
